At MADEX 2023, Hanwha System introduced:

MUM-T

At Madex 2023 exhibition, Hanwha Systems presented a total solution for unmanned system operation along with various maritime unmanned systems such as Multi-Mission Unmanned Surface Vehicle, ‘Sea GHOST’, USV for search & reconnaissance, DAUV (Docking Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), ASWUUV (Anti-Submarine Warfare Unmanned Underwater Vehicle), next generation ROV (Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle)…Hanwha Systems has showed differentiated and outstanding MUM-T (Manned-Unmanned Teaming) capabilities using low earth orbit satellites.

Sea Ghost USV

The Unmanned Surface Vehicle developed by Hanwha System “Sea Ghost” performs various tasks such as unmanned reconnaissance, ship search, and command control. The ship equips with an EO/IR camera, 12.7MM machine gun. For automatic navigation, the biggest difficulty of unmanned navigation, Hanwha System enabled unmanned navigation by installing a wavelength measurement radar and an automatic navigation algorithm. The unmanned underwater vehicle mounted on the stern will carry out a mine search mission.

LEO communication satellite

The low earth orbit communication satellite introduced with the unmanned surface vehicle is capable of building a military low-orbit communication satellite network. The network contributes to the realization of an unstopped communicating environment between unmanned weapon systems and command control center through low-orbit satellite technology. Hanwha System explained that mother ships and unmanned surface vehicles can be connected by the communication system on a real-time basis. So the ROK Navy can carry out the operation without issues such as a shaded communication area and unlimited distance. The technology also provides Satellite Tactical Internet Service. Hanwha Systems is actively pursuing the military communication system project, which will utilize OneWeb’s low earth orbit satellite networks.

AUVs

Hanhwa systems introduced various types of Automated Underwater Vehicel; Side Scan Sonar AUV (SS AUV), Synthetic Aperture Sonar AUV (SAS AUV), Next Generation ROV for Mine Disposal, Anti-Submarine Warfare UUV, Docking AUV. The SAS AUV and SS AUV are developed for mine exploration mission. Four SS AUV and one SAS AUV can operate as a team for the mine detection operation with an operational radius of around 10 KM. Once the AUVs find the mine ROV will destroy the target.

Integrated Combat System

The next-generation “Integrated Combat System (ICS)” which is unveiled at the MADEX can operate various systems and types of equipment in a single control environment. The ICS can integrate and operate unmanned surface vehicles and unmanned submarines, which are controlled individually, within one combat system. ICS can support MUM-T operations. This technology was showcased on the FFX Batch III frigate console during MADEX.

AI Combat System

Artificial intelligence (AI) applied multifunction console developed for ROK Navy and export market. This console is capable of performing target detection/tracking, threat assessment, weapon allocation, and hit assessment. The purpose of the development is to secure the basic and core technologies necessary for the development of intelligent combat system, which is the goal of future naval combat systemAI combat system Key Features:

C-UAS System

Hawnha Systems was also showcasing a Counter UAS (C-UAS) system. Dubbed the “Drone Complex Protection System”, this is an anti-drone system to defend against illegal drone threats such as North Korean UAVs. The “drone complex protection system” solution consists of a radar, a thermal electro-optic (EO/IR) system, a jammer, “killer drones” and an integrated operation device, which can track and identify small drone targets and neutralize them with jamming or killer drones to capture the enemy drones (via a net).
